Hello.I've been a G-Drive user for about 2yrs now. I use it mainly for uploading photos from my Android phone (used in the field doing inspection reports) upload those photos to respective folders on the drive. That works exceptionally well and doesnt clog up my phone/ SC card. Up until a few days ago, I would simply locate the photos/ files I uploaded to Drive, select them from my desktop computer and download them as they need to be inserted into various client websites for my reporting.NOW when I select the files from Drive and 'download' them, Drive compresses them and drops a.zip file to my browser (chrome). That is fine.
However, when I click on that download folder and attempt to extract those downloaded files, NOTHING is in the folder. Its as if Drive is going thru the motions of downloading the 10-15-20 photos/ files and compressing them to a zip folder, but NOTHING is there.
I have NOT changed anything to my computer or its O/S so I am at a complete loss as to why this is occurring. Can someone please review and advise if there is a simple fix??Much appreciated. Shasha - Community Specialist, 8:36 น. Could you confirm if you're trying to zip multiple files or multiple folders? Just wanted to let you know, Google Drive has a limit of 500 files per folder and 2 GB limit for a ZIP file. Just make sure you aren't exceeding these parameters? I'd recommend following the below steps to see if it helps:.
Clear your cache and cookies. (See.).

your Chrome settings. Run, to remove software that may cause Chrome to experience issues. I noticed this behavior on my PC as well. Windows 10 Anniversary Edition. This happens when using the default file Explorer. Try extracting the folder using a different tool, for example 7-Zip, and the files are there. I assume this might be caused due to the parent folder in which these files are packed has no name.
Please report this to your technical support team. (ไม่รู้จัก), 10:31 น. (ไม่รู้จัก), 10:33 น.
Vishnuraj.k.v raj, 10:34 น. Users in my company are experiencing this as well (we have 50 or so). We are a Google apps for business company and we all use Windows 7 Enterprise with the Chrome browser installed. This is happening regardless of the file type(s), size, or how many files are downloaded (whether it is 5 or 50). Singly, a file will download properly. We have tried clearing cache, rebooting, using different browsers (Chrome, IE, FireFox), incognito mode, etc.
The issue is with the zip file itself. The filesize on the zip file is appropriate for the files included in the download.
However, the zip file opens blank and if you attempt to extract, it gives a 'Windows cannot complete the extraction. The Compressed (zipped) Folder c: users.filename.zip is invalid.' I contacted Google support and the tech basically told me it is our problem. If we open the zip file using a third party utility, the files show in the zip file. Since the zip file will open with a third party utility, Google will not help us. The problem is our users do not have third party zip utilities installed. This has been working fine for years and suddenly today it stopped working.
The Google tech told me nothing has changed on Google's end and we must have updated something. I can assure you we have not updated anything. Hopefully, they will address this soon, so we can continue to use the built-in zip capability on our Windows 7 systems. Pinnacle Consulting, 12:46 น.
It really is most odd. Almost as if something was switched @ Google (or in the Drive app itself). As I mentioned in my original post, I've been using Drive to store photos/ reports etc. Uploaded directly from my phone to their respective folder in Drive.
Then, when I am handling a project thru a client's portal, I simply download those photos (usually to a working folder on my desktop) and then upload whatever things I need to the client's portal. Works exceptionally well. Until Saturday Oct 8th.I did read up on some free utilities (I did just download 7zip) but the weird thing is that the downloaded folder that Drive auto creates is placed in a weird spot in my DOWNLOADS (it does not get filed sequentially for some reason) and then (probably because I am a novice @ 7zip) I had to drag the folder over to the open frame where it could be extracted by 7Zip. THAT program then said the folder was empty and gave a 'File Name will be ' message. I typed a folder name and then the files got extracted but they were scattered all over the place on my desktop. Its a very odd problem and I concur that something is awry on Drive's end as I have NOT done anything to my computers (I have 5) and it does not matter if its a Windows 7 or 10 or a Mac iOS system. The empty folder still appears and nothing gets extracted.I will continue to explore how Zip7 works but at least I can get the multiple files I wish to work with vs downloading each and every one from drive (which works fine) but as soon as you select more than ONE file, it creates a zip folder regardless of the file quantity or sizes.I hope this was helpful to everyone on this thread.Cheers, Animal Aid, 15:26 น.
I select individual files (90% of the time photos). I want to DOWNLOAD them.
Drive behaves as if it is doing a 'download to zip folder' (the Mb show it progressing, the # of seconds counts down) but when you goto EXTRACT the files in that folder (which shows empty) and then you get the 'INVALID FOLDER' or whatever error message. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER before experienced any such issues and I have 4x NEVER had a supposed tech support claim they did nothing to change or alter the methods of how their product works. Quite astounding actually. I thought I was starting to go nuts until I saw so many others claim 'YES!
I have the same exact issue' sort of reply. I have been having this issue as well for the last few weeks. Empty.zip file when downloading multiple files from Google Drive.
I am on a Windows 10 computer (but I doubt that is a factor in this issue). To solve this for now, I downloaded 7zip and use it to extract files from the Google Drive.zip file. Interesting note: when I open the archive in 7zip, there is a folder at the root of the archive and then I drill into this folder and it contains all of my images. I expect Google Drive is creating a malformed.zip file that contains a top-level folder and it is causing the issue.
Anyway, I wanted to share my solution here and hope it is only needed temporarily until Google fixes this defect. Jay August, 5:07 น. What I managed to find out is that (unlike the way it worked previously), if you NOW create a separate folder for each use (I call mine something like 'Zip-1017-A') using date/ letters whatever, and then MOVE the files I want into that 'special' folder AND THEN DOWNLOAD the entire folder (which then downloads to my desktop as a zip folder), I can then OPEN/ EXTRACT all those files (usually images) and then work with them on my desktop/ client project website. Its a few extra steps and totally smacks in the face of how Drive behaved previously, but at least this beats download 137 photos from Drive so you can work w. That's great for people that have administrator access, but as someone who is part of a large company, I don't; therefore, I can't install the app.
This is getting a little ridiculous Google. Just uninstall what ever stupid update you made two weeks ago that caused this problem. I love your applications Google, but your customer service is one of the worst I've ever experienced. I sent an email several days ago. Not even an automated response. I just don't get it.
I'm not even sure how to get live chat like the previous poster indicated. This is obviously a problem that is server-side.
I'm officially looking for an alternative cloud service today. Jon Podmore, 11:05 น. Sorry if I was not clear, you do not have to make a new folder. You just have to go backwards or up one folder!
I just go to my Google drive and go to the folder that has all the files I want to download all at once - but do not enter that folder. Just right click on the folder and select download. Then it will work. I use Classroom every day as a teacher and the Google Classroom folder opens up to the folder, I used to just highlight all files and right click and download but that doesn't work now. So I just keep another tab open that has Google drive open and just find the folder from there instead.
